Oxford College’s Physio/Occupational Therapist Assistant program prepares you to assist registered physiotherapists and/or occupational therapists in treating their patients and creating a welcoming therapeutic space for clients. The need for Physiotherapy Assistants (PTAs) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) remains strong, as more people turn to this form of therapy to treat a wide range of injuries and conditions.

You will learn to assist in a number of treatments and exercise routines under the direction and supervision of a registered physiotherapy and/or occupational therapist. These include hands-on duties such as carrying out exercises and activities with clients, using massage and stretching techniques to alleviate a client’s pain, developing and implementing treatment plans, assisting in or conducting group activities and monitoring changes in a patient’s recovery. You will also learn to perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, documenting and completing client records, obtaining case histories, monitoring inventory and cleaning treatment areas.
